Ok, I am a little late to the party, I know. But, a few years back beauty YouTuber NikkiTutorials found out that Nivea moisturizer sensitive for men works great as a primer and I thought ‘why not give it a try.’
The formula is very thin and, I believe, is water based, so it works great for people with oily to combination skin types. I also used Smashbox’s photo finish primer water, which Nikki recommends using in conjunction with the moisturizer. Little disclaimer with the addition of the primer water: it is not really on the lower end but you can just use the moisturizer by itself.
The reason Nikki recommends Nivea as a primer is because the second most used ingredient in the moisturizer is glycerin, which is what makes the moisturizer tacky. This helps the foundation stick to your skin more easily.
But, here is what I think about it.
I think it does work as a primer and it also doubles up as your morning moisturizer. However, it doesn’t do much in the way of filling in your pores or reducing oiliness. Not that Nikki ever claimed that. But, I would use it again and it is great for when your budget is tight.
So overall, it is not the best primer I have used but it’s not even close to being the worst, and with the addition of the primer water it has been keeping my skin supple and moisturized. Because of this I would definitely recommend it.
